Spire Investment Partners proudly welcomes Barbara Doran to the team.
Before joining Spire, Barbara Doran was a Senior Portfolio Manager and Director at a wealth advisory firm launched in mid-2016 with assets of $800m. She was a senior member of the firm’s Investment Committee and responsible for writing market commentaries for the company’s clients and other constituencies.
Previously, she oversaw large cap growth portfolios for the firm’s asset management division in addition to providing wealth advisory services for private clients.
Just prior to, Ms. Doran was a Senior Portfolio Manager/Wealth Advisor in the top 5% of the firm’s 17,000 advisors in performance, and is the former Research Investment Officer at a $250+ billion asset management firm where she co-managed a successful start-up technology fund and was Interim Director of Equity Research, reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer.
She has founded and managed two firms, a long/short equity hedge fund and a third party marketing firm that specialized in asset raising and business consulting for hedge funds and private equity firms. She also worked as a senior institutional equity salesperson at two major Wall Street firms, becoming the top-ranked salesperson at the latter, and managed proprietary firm capital for them as well.
Prior to graduating from Harvard Business School with an MBA, she worked in publishing, initially as a journalist in print and broadcast media, and later, at Sports Illustrated in advertising sales and in circulation at Conde’ Nast Publications. She is a former member of both the United States Women’s National Lacrosse Team and the United States National Field Hockey Team, and represented the United States in international competition in both.
She is and has been a member of various nonprofit boards for over thirty years, including Outward Bound, The Foundation for Child Development (and a member of its finance/investment committee overseeing a $100m endowment), MCC Theater, and the US Field Hockey and US Lacrosse Associations where she has held various leadership positions. She is also the Chair of the Investment Committee for the Explorers Club in New York City and Head of Development.
Ms. Doran is currently a member of the Board of Trustees at Penn State, from where she graduated with a B.A. in English, and is a member of the Executive Committee, as well as the governance and finance committees and various sub-committees. She is a de facto member of Penn State’s $4b endowment investment committee.
She is a published writer on sports and investments, appears regularly on various CNBC shows as a guest commentator on markets, stocks and investments, and remains an active sportswoman. She played in the 2016 Masters World Cup Field Hockey Tournament in Australia where her Over-45 team won the bronze. She also played in the European Grandmasters Championship in Scotland last August where her team won the silver and played in the Masters Field Hockey World Cup in Spain this summer representing the US.
